I met Alessandra at a party. Tried to impress her. Was almost positive I was going to fail.

I think I said something along the lines of, “I’m a Goat called Fish who’s hung like a bull—but not really. I’m actually pretty average.” Smooth. I know. Try not to be jealous.

When she laughed—and I mean, really laughed—I knew she wasn’t like the other girls I’d been meeting on tour. Hell, she wasn’t even in the same stratosphere as those fangirls and gold-diggers.

At one point during the party, Alessandra said, “There’s nothing like a girl’s first love.” I knew she was talking about the first smash hit by my band, 22 Goats. Alessandra said it was the first song she’d heard by us and it “hit her like a ton of bricks.” Ironic, seeing as how I was having the same reaction from being in her presence.

I made it my mission to impress her. Give her the kiss of a lifetime that night. But since I’ve always been the dude with zero game, nothing went according to plan.

I’m not giving up, though. I’m going to win this girl over. I’m done sitting on the sidelines, watching the bad boy getting the girl. This time, the nice guy will finish first. Even if it’s the last thing he’ll do.

Smitten is an all-new standalone friends to lovers romance!

OUR REVIEW: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Carter is the second book by Maryann Jordan in the Hope City series she’s writing with Kris Michaels, each writing their own books.

Tara McBride Wilson, single mom and head social worker at Ever Hope Homeless Shelter, has little time to deal with the handsome detective who keeps popping up…at work and on her mind.

#NewRelease BOSS IN THE BEDSHEETS by Kate Canterbary

OUR REVIEW: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Boss in the Bedsheets was AMAZING!! No unnecessary drama, yay! Just a great completely ‘unputdownable’ story from start to finish.

Kate Canterbary writes the absolute BEST grumpy, growly heroes and Ash is the best of the best! He is super grumpy, growly, bossy… but the SWEETEST grump ever!!

“… scowling and frowning, his growls, his moods, his unnecessary jabs. He was precious under all that grump and I lived for the prize of an ooey gooey center…”

And Zelda is awesome. She is thrown in with Ash by fate and running from something but she is a bright ‘moonbeam’ and absolutely no shrinking violet, doormat heroine.

“Why do I have the impression I’ve hired the Mary Poppins of tax and audit?”

Zelda hit me with a slight smirk. “Not sure if I’m practically perfect in every way but it’s possible.”

Oh and did I mention HOT? Scorching HOT, just take my word and one click.

If I could give this story a hundred stars I would!! The story is a standalone. You don’t have to know that Ash is Magnolia’s brother. Just dive in blind.

-All The Stars!-

Mr. Santillian,

Despite the fact I’m currently living out of your guest room and sleeping with you most nights, I am writing to announce my resignation effective two weeks from today.

In other words, I’ll locate someone who is both obscenely overqualified and willing to devote their days to the handful of tasks you are able to wrench from your perfectionist, micromanaging grip. It may be difficult to find a Nobel laureate genius looking for basic filing work on such short notice, but I’ll do my best.

Don’t worry about your sister’s wedding this weekend. I still plan to attend as your date, assuming you’ve finished hating me by then.

Thank you in advance for your understanding.

Ms. Besh,

Resignation not accepted.

I’ll see you at home.

A sudden bang disrupts the stillness surrounding us. The colt’s head jerks up, the loud noise clearly frightening him. The unexpected movement while I’m distracted for a second by whoever made the noise sends me staggering back, only to trip over my own feet. I land hard on my back, jarring my injured shoulder. Pain unlike anything I remember ever feeling before shoots through my body, causing me to cry out and tears to spring to my eyes. I don’t notice the footsteps running toward me, I’m too busy gritting my teeth and trying to breathe through the pain shooting down my body.

I continue to blink at the ceiling, not paying attention to what it is going on around me, when a shadow falls over me.

“Are you okay?” a familiar voice asks me.

“Yeah,” I groan through the pain, still not quite able to make out the face hovering over me.

“Where’s your sling?”

Unable to process his question, I keep blinking until his face finally comes into focus, and I’m stunned stupid. Blue eyes intermixed with a steely-gray stare down at me from a face that reminds me of a Roman god, all sharp edges and straight lines. His dirty blond hair is messy, like he ran his hand through it one too many times. Unable to help myself, my eyes fall to his full lips. It was only when said lips start to twitch into a smile, I realize what I’m doing and my eyes snap back up to his.

“What?” I stammer, trying to get my brain to work while telling myself it’s only the pain I’m currently in that is making me act like an idiot.

“I asked where your sling was at. You’re supposed to wear it all the time, aren’t you?” The smile is gone, replaced with what looks close to reproach.

Deciding to ignore his question because I know not wearing that stupid sling isn’t smart, and I’m not about to tell this stranger that I can’t put it on by myself without crying in pain, I ask, “Who are you?”

“I’m Kade Reed.”

As soon as the name leaves his lips I freeze, and all attraction I felt toward him vanishes into the ether—or so I tell myself. So, this is the guy who thinks talking shit about a person he doesn’t know is acceptable.

What a shame it’s always the gorgeous ones who turn out to be jerks.

He must have felt the change in me because his eyebrows pull together, and he asks, “Are you okay, Montana?”

So, he knows who I am. Which means I imagined the friendly, maybe even flirty, smile he sent my way when I was staring at him. Just as well.

“No, this floor is freezing. And my shoulder is killing me. Now move so I can get up,” I say, barely containing the sarcasm. At my tone his face changes, no surprise there since this probably only confirms his opinion of me. But I long ago decided, about the time when I realized I can’t force either one of my parents love me, to never again try to prove myself to someone else in order to make them like me. Either they do or they don’t, but their opinion isn’t going to define me. Not anymore.

He moves back before he offers me his hand to help me up. Knowing it would only hurt more to do it by myself, I grasp his hand. A zing of awareness races through me at the contact of our skin. Something I’ve never felt before. Stunned for a second, I let him pull me to my feet without much help from me.

I still wonder what the hell that feeling was when he walks toward the hay bale to grab my sling. Once he’s back in front of me, I silently watch him as he slides the sling carefully over my arm before he fastens the strap around my neck. A tingling sensation follows his fingers as they skim the skin of my neck.

I clear my throat and try to hold his gaze that’s clearly not pleased with me being here. Or maybe he just doesn’t like being anywhere near me. “Thank you,” I say, trying to remember my manners.

“What the fuck were you thinking?”

I’m taken aback by his harsh tone, not sure what he’s referring to. “What?”

“I know you’re not stupid, Montana. I asked what the fuck you were thinking going anywhere near Lucifer? Someone like you could have easily gotten hurt.”

“Someone like me?” My own voice rises in response to his condescending tone. Someone like me? Is he serious? I’m probably more qualified to be near that horse—Lucifer—than everyone else in this place except my father.

“Yeah, someone like you who’s never been around a green horse before.”

At his words, the anger I’ve been holding in for the last half an hour, ever since I heard him talk to Lizzie—hell over the last fourteen years—explodes out of me.

“Listen here, jackass, the only reason why Lucifer freaked out is because you came storming in here making a fucking ruckus so loud you’d think you were trying to wake the dead. He was perfectly fine before you showed up, doing whatever it was you were doing, and scaring him.” When he opens his mouth to respond, I hold up my hand palm out to stop him. “I’m still talking, you already said plenty for one day.”

My hand drops to my side. “You don’t know me, or my life. All you know is a bunch of bullshit other people or social media has told you. And they don’t fucking know me either. You’re clearly the type of person who thinks it’s okay to talk shit about someone you’ve never so much as spoken a word to, and I’m the brat?” My voice rises the longer I speak. I don’t care if he realizes I overheard his conversation this morning. “But I’m going to tell you one thing. Besides my father, I’m probably the only person on this ranch who’s able to handle a horse like Lucifer. He wasn’t planning to hurt me, and he wouldn’t have if not for you. I’ve been on a horse since before I could walk, I’ve been training them since I was thirteen years old. I’m the only one who ever trained or rode Whisky.” I point toward my boy whose head is hanging out the door window, clearly curious. “He’s the best at what he does because of me, not despite of me.” It’s not a lie either. Whisky was born to jump, he loves doing it and he excels when faced with a challenge, despite being shorter than most of his peers, but he’s only at the level he is at because we’re unbeatable as a team. We’re in sync and trust each other, which is vital when you do what we do. But many people don’t understand the bond we share and think I’m just a spoiled brat who got lucky with a horse someone bought her.

“So how about you get off your high horse and take your condescending attitude and fuck yourself.” I’m past caring that I’m reinforcing his opinion of me. I long since learned not to surround myself with people who are either using me for something or talk about me behind my back while being nice to my face. It’s gotten me into trouble one too many times not to have learned my lesson.

At my last sentence, his eyes widen in shock while his mouth tightens. I guess he’s not used to anyone—especially a woman—speaking to him this way.

“You—” he starts, his face contorting in anger, but the door opening interrupts whatever he was about to say.

“Montana, here you are,” I hear my father’s voice, but I refuse to be the one to look away first. It might be childish, but I refuse to give him that much.

🥃DRINK by Mayra Statham is NOW LIVE!🥃

This was another fantastic, enthralling read by the awesome Mayra Statham. This is the fourth book in the series and can be read as a standalone.

This book is about Gabrielle and Donnie who we met in previous books.

Gabrielle being the youngest has always been coddled by her sister and she hated it even though she loved and appreciated them.

Donnie being older than her never wanted to go there with her until one night he knew he couldn’t hold back anymore. Gabby has been into him for ao damn long and he always ignored his feelings.

Watching them break walls and find each was damn awesome. Watching for a beautiful relationship of trust, royalty and understanding was captivating.

Even with ups and downs they handled them all so well.

Donnie for me was the highlight in this story. I absolutely loved him. The way he cared and loved Gabby was beautiful.

This story is so captivating you will read it in a day I promise.

Their chemistry and Banter was just so bewitching. They will hold you captive and having you read fast so you just get to know what happens next.

Enjoy ladies!!!

OUR REVIEW: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Sandy and Jordan’s love story is about taking a chance to love again after the both lost their spouses, it’s their second chapter of their lives.
While Jordan has been ready to ask Sandy out she hasn’t been quite ready, finally she’s ready to take the step and start dating, Jordan doesn’t give her a chance to find someone else. I loved how caring Jordan is and the ease their relationship seems to be. A little hiccup with Sandy wanting a take a step back but Jordan s little angry though patient. Their journey was a beautiful story
The epilogue brought tears and smile I didn’t want it to end. From the beginning of Bentley’s story to the last word in Sandy’s the journey of the Bam boys has been filled with so many emotions and showed us what family is even if it’s not the family your born into but the family you make! I’ll miss them!

Title: Asher
Series: Ashes & Embers #6
Author: Carian Cole

Asher has been one of my most anticipated books. Asher and Ember have an epic love story that has been mentioned and hinted about in the previous books in this series. The story can be read as a standalone but the rest of the books in this series are amazing and well worth grabbing and reading also.

“It’s crazy to think I was in a bed in the same room for almost eight years, suspended between life and death, imprisoned in my own body.”

Ember’s journey back from her coma is handled so perfectly with heart and even touches of humor.

“I’m not sure I like him. So much hair and beard and tattoos. I don’t think he even has a job.”

This book is super angsty, at times completely heartbreaking, but so well written and the story told so beautifully that I felt everything!

Stranger Ranger, an all-new standalone contemporary romance from USA Today bestselling author Daisy Prescott, is now available in Kindle Unlimited!

20200127 GVPR02 Prescott-FF

OUR REVIEW: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I love this small town, slow burn romcom. This author does an amazing job of diving into our beloved Green Valley and bringing to life characters we can love, weaving their stories seamlessly into the Smartypants world.

“I didn’t know how much I craved her touch until this moment.

I didn’t know how much she could affect me with a single kiss.”

Daphne Baum is a ‘by the books’ good girl, rule follower. She meets her opposite in black sheep, Odin Hill, a quirky vegetable farmer and his pet pig Patsy.

“I dismiss her wild suggestion by making a funny face.

“You’re weird, Odin Hill.”

“Tell me something I don’t know.”

I love how this author sneaks emotional moments in while we are distracted with her quirky humor. All while revealing little secrets like breadcrumbs throughout the story.

-5 Stars!-

New park ranger Daphne Baum is a reformed good girl. Breaking free from her overbearing family as soon as she turned eighteen, she’s been on her own ever since. The life of a park ranger, moving from park to park, suits her just fine. Though still a rule follower, she’s okay with a little sin in her life.

Every generation of Hill men has its black sheep. The general consensus among the family is that Odin Hill is the lucky bastard this go around. At seventeen, he blew out of town like an angry tornado only to return fifteen years later withdrawn and secretive. Living like a recluse in the hollows in the Smoky Mountains, he’s happy to keep to himself and is content to let locals believe he’s the town weirdo. Odin prefers the company of his pet pig to the nosy citizens of Green Valley.

When Daphne discovers Odin might be committing nefarious deeds on park land, she vows to find out the truth behind the handsome, yet chaotic, loner. Will the stranger help the ranger discover the difference between being good and doing the right thing? Or will they find themselves on opposite sides of love?

‘Stranger Ranger’ is a full-length contemporary romance, can be read as a standalone, and is book #2 in the Park Ranger series, Green Valley World, Penny Reid Book Universe.

By early afternoon, the crowd at the farmers’ market fades, leaving only stragglers, bargainers, and tourists sampling the charms of small town life.

I’ve had enough people for the week I’m looking forward to the quiet of my own company. All the talking and friendly chatter exhaust me. You’d think vegetables would sell themselves given they’re pretty self-explanatory. Yet folks wanna hear a story about a carrot being grown from the guy who pulled it out of the dirt himself. So I play my part of the happy farmer at the stand. It’s my bad luck I’ve always been charming. Part of my DNA.

My family has lived in the mountains surrounding Green Valley longer than anyone around here can remember. Before there was a National Park or even a Cades Cove, the Hills had established a homestead in the Smokies straddling Tennessee and North Carolina.

Because our last name is Hill, some people like to joke we put the hill in hillbilly. Jethro Winston for example. He’s hysterical. Some people think they have a sense of humor when they’re just being mean-spirited. As my Nannie Ida always says, glass houses provide good views, but then again, so do mirrors.

This is why I prefer the company of Patsy over most folks. She’s smart, a good listener, tidy, and doesn’t give a damn about my family and reputation. She has more class than a lot of the gossips and Sunday church-goers around here.

After I consolidate the remaining produce into crates and load up the van, I fold the tables and collapse my tent. While I work, the face of the brunette ranger floats through my mind.

She looked familiar but I didn’t recognize her name. It isn’t likely our paths have crossed. I don’t get out much and I’m not hanging around the bars or the visitor center in Cades Cove. Normally, one of my cousins covers the stand at the weekly farmers’ market and I can avoid the crowds. This is what happens when I let my guard down and am forced to engage with the public. I get iceberg and Bible quotes. I’ve never been a fan of either.

Bothered I’m still thinking about her, I close and lock up the van.

“Come on Patsy, let’s go for a walk.”

She gives a happy snort and steps closer to where her leash hangs on the top rail of her pen.

When the two of us stroll through town, folks stare. It’s worse when they insist on sharing a comment, tell the same old joke, and, in general, make a fuss. Honestly, I assume at this point people seeing the two of us together would be old news around here.

Guess some folks don’t have enough going on in their lives that they need to make commentary about people minding their own damn business.

I don’t understand what the big deal is about a man walking his pig.

Patsy’s excellent on a leash. Doesn’t pull. Has never instigated fights with dogs. Hasn’t bit anyone. Doesn’t do her business in the middle of the sidewalk. In my mind, she’s much better mannered than any old hound dog.

She’s pretty darn perfect in every conceivable way.

Except the one time she trampled Mrs. MacClure’s flower bed. Even that was my fault for not paying closer attention to where we were walking.

If I had to find fault with her, Patsy thinks she’s in charge. And she’s a little more than spoiled. I only have myself to blame.

“Clarice, please tell me you see that man walking his pig.” A woman shouts to her friend and points from about three feet away.

“I’m not invisible,” I tell her with a flat smile.

“Oh dear.” Her companion rolls her eyes. “You’re a tall drink of cool water, aren’t you?”

The question is rhetorical. Being compared to a refreshing beverage doesn’t require a response, so I remain quiet. Patsy tugs on her leash and releases a frustrated snort that we’ve stopped walking.

“You two have a nice day, m‘kay.” I step off the sidewalk to pass them.

I’d like to say their behavior is atypical. If I hear “You’re like the Jolly Green Giant. Only less green” one more time …

For the record, I am not jolly.

There must be something in the well water around here. We grow ‘em tall in Green Valley.

Does a pig need to be walked on leash for health and exercise? No.

I’m the only weirdo in all of Green Valley who likes to take my daily constitutional accompanied by a sow. Not even Cletus Winston is as much of an oddball as I am. And that’s saying something.

He’s only interested in pigs and boar in terms of sausage. In my opinion, he’s missing out. If we were friends, or even friendly acquaintances, I might suggest we partner up. Truffle salami can be incredible. Or so I remember. I don’t eat pork anymore. Not since I’ve had Patsy. I’d be offended if she ate human body parts around me.

Hogs will eat pretty much anything you give them. A few years ago a pig farmer went missing. Wife said he ran off with his mistress. Everyone believed her until his gold tooth turned up in the muck and mud of their hog pens. Macabre, but true.

I don’t eat pork and Patsy doesn’t eat me. It’s an unspoken pact between us.

Not that she’s some sort of demon pig crazed with bloodlust. Not at all. She’s the best pig in eastern Tennessee. Don’t need a blue ribbon from the state fair to make it true.

This leisurely stroll around town is all part of my ruse.

If someone sees us ambling someplace we don’t belong, they’ll leave us alone, which is the entire point.

There’s freedom in being a weirdo. Folks keep their distance. Sure, there are the asinine comments, but for the most part they assume I’m dim-witted or crazy. Fine by me. With or without my porcine sidekick, I’ve always been different. I learned early on that people like to form and hold onto their own opinions. Pointless to try to change someone’s mind. What they think of me is their problem, not mine.

#BlogTour LOVE IN DEED by @LBDunbarWrites #5Stars #OurReview #Standalone @SmartyPantsRom

Love in Deed, an all-new standalone contemporary romance from L.B. Dunbar, is now available in Kindle Unlimited!

OUR REVIEW: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I love this book. It is a story of resilience and hope.

Beverly Townsen is a bit of a broken woman in body and mind. She is living with the effects of years of mental and emotional abuse. She has fought back by becoming sarcastic and extremely prickly. She is not going to trust very easily.

“I don’t want him noticing me. I don’t want him anything-ing me.”

Jedd Flemming has been all over with military and rodeo but is now ready to settle down. He shows up at Beverly’s farm with a proposition, a won’t take no for an answer attitude and a few secrets.

“No, I’m not letting you push me away. And you aren’t running from me either.”

“I can’t run,” I state, and his eyes narrow at me.”

What a wonderful story! This author took a character who had seemed unredeemable and showed us how beautiful and vulnerable she really was inside.

-5 Stars!-

Sometimes it takes an outsider to force us to see who we are. The real struggle is accepting what we learn. For Beverly Townsen, nothing could be closer to the truth. Virtually a shut-in, Beverly has pulled back from Green Valley’s community, preferring the isolation of her farmhouse and her daily routine of viewing home improvement television shows. When the opportunity arises for her own home improvement and a personal re-assessment, she’s not so excited about the reality of real life versus DIY programs.

Jedd Flemming understands physical pain and personal loss, but it’s never stopped him from bucking forward in life. A former military man and rodeo star, his life as a nomad comes to an end with false accusations and a family matter back in the Valley. It’s been a long journey to find his way home and once there, there’s nothing he wants more than to reclaim what he’s lost…and maybe the elusive female reclusive who holds a sliver of his past.

With an unprecedented proposition, Beverly finds a stranger living in her barn, raising horses on borrowed pastures, and plowing his way into her vacant heart. Old hurts linger, but sometimes love in deed is louder than words.

‘Love in Deed’ is a full-length contemporary romance, can be read as a standalone, and is book #6 in the Green Valley Library series, Green Valley World, Penny Reid Book Universe.

“Momma,” she whispers, and I turn at the soft question in her voice. Her eyes scan my face. Does she fear she’ll look like me one day? Those bright eyes will dim, and lines will form in the corners. Will they be rivers formed from tears, or will she eventually find laughter? Does she wonder if her lips will match mine, permanently curled downward? Can my girl still smile? Will her hair go gray too young as mine did? Will the stress of her life turn her into someone lonely and lost?

I blink back the tears fighting for release. I won’t cry. Nothing left to cry over. It’s all gone.

“Do you fancy him?” my daughter asks, and I choke on the question.

“What…? I…of course not. Don’t be silly. I’m sure he’d be more interested in the likes of you.”

“What’s that supposed to mean?” Hannah asks, brows rising in surprise.

“I’m sure I don’t need to explain the birds and the bees to you. Men like him only want young things and only want one thing from those young things. I don’t think he should stay here,” I sneer, recognizing the pulse at my neck and the thump of my heart. My daughter is a pretty girl, and this older man could be attracted to her for all the wrong reasons. Young girls go for older men to solve their daddy issues.

“He’s sleeping in the barn,” Hannah counters, her voice deepening in displeasure. Ticking off points on her fingers, she continues, “We don’t need to feed him. He’ll rebuild at his expense or hire what he can’t do himself. The back field will be plowed and prepped for spring planting.”

I snort in response, but my eyes return to Jedd’s movement. Into the barn. Out in the yard. My observation traces down his perspiring spine to the waist of his pants where his shirt has untucked. My fingers curl on the armrest of the rocker as my eyes outline the fine globes accentuated by those smooth pants. My mouth goes dry.

What is it about this man? Why am I suddenly lusting after him?

I can’t. That’s the bottom line. I can’t anything him. Under fifteen percent and tight pants and a perfect backside is still a man with empty words.

My eyes fall blindly on the reality television program. The only man a girl can count on is the fictional kind. I force my attention away from the barn, but my eyes seem to have a will of their own.

“We can’t have a stranger living in our barn,” I huff. Jedd stops, turning in his tracks with a pile of lumber on his shoulder as if he heard me, which is impossible on two counts: the panes of glass and his lack of hearing. Still, he stills, and his eyes narrow on the house as if he knows I’m watching him, I’m talking about him, and I don’t agree with this arrangement.

“Too late. He’s moving in.” Hannah definitively nods, dismissing my opinion as Jedd swings back around. She leans down to kiss my cheek and then exits my room, but I remain transfixed.

Suddenly, reality is more fascinating than television.

My eyes continue the cat and mouse game of watching Jedd disappear and then reappear. I don’t know how much time transpires, but eventually, the bed of his truck is empty. Still, I hold my breath as if the barn is a giant octopus, swallowing him whole. I fear he might disappear forever like Howard did, which is the silliest thought I’ve had in a decade. I don’t need Jedd. We don’t need Jedd. There will be no attachment to him.

But then, Jedd appears at the open barn door and gives a single wave toward the house, and I smile in spite of myself.
