  • When my Girl Natasha said to me that she was writing her 1st book I really loved going on that journey with her. It was exciting and i loved watching how her mind worked. When that book came out I knew how amazing of an Author she was and I was glad the world was getting a glimpse of her brilliance. But this book  this damn amazing book shows us she is firstly definitely not a one hit wonder, and that she is not afraid to push the boundaries. She is a magnificent Author that obviously can give us Different. Whether it is Sweet Romance or Darker this girl hands down knows what she is doing.
  • From the moment you start this story, you literarily grabbed by the ur heart and Balls… This story will fucking Shred you. This journey is gut wrenching and will at times make ur stomach turn. This book is about Lilah and Bella.
  • Ladies there is no easy from the first chapter but these two grab ur heart and never let go. Fuck did I tear up many times , sob and ugly cry during this book…. The emotions you go through because these two beautiful souls go through the fires of hell. The Devil Himself had caught them and never let go until our Warrior Bella realised that there is hope outside of where the demon had her trapped. That she has the Fight and strength to get them out the depths of hell.
  • When they make it out of the monsters clutches these two crushed souls are battered and broken both physically and emotionally. I was so thrilled they had something  and someone that gave them hope to take the leap and faith,  that everything will work out fine for them. Little did they know, the leap they take would lead them down the road that will take them only to love, kindness and protection. Unconditional love is what  they find when they least expect it.
  • That’s what Jackson is to them both Jackson ,Jackson , Jackson he is Alpha and Hotness wrapped up in beautiful muscle and a gorgeous face to go with. Jackson who has his own monsters to slay takes one look at this mother and child and knows these two have been damaged in the worst kind of way, he knows that he was put here on Earth  to love, protect and shield his girls… From the moment he meets them he knows something is wrong he just never realized how utterly wronged these Two were This man and his love for Bella and Lilah had me sobbing and saying finally they getting the man they deserve and need. He fought to gain their trust, he slayed dragons, burned down the devil himself to get and keep his girls safe.
  • Every scene or chapter had me in one emotion or the other. This book will give you the biggest MotherFucking Twist I have EVER read in  book History…. The Angst and OH MY GOD MOMENTS will make you put that kindle down and look for a Cigarette. I polished a couple double Absolute with cranberry during this book…
  • Hell and Back is so amazingly true to what happens in this book. It fits the story so Perfectly…. There moments where I just sat there and  almost called Natasha and asked what the fuck were you thinking? How could you do that? Were you not loved at some point in your childhood? Where dies this kind of dark from. My Beautiful Natasha Butterfly can’t do this to me. She is not deranged or not a phyco….This was all because the twist and turns are ones you never see coming. Its amazing to know her mind went there and she could give us this.
  • This magical book just doesn’t give you main characters that you will never forget but side characters that you fall in love with as well.
  • This Magical Book is book about having faith and hope even in our darkest of times, it shows us that Good always wins over Evil. And that bad days never last forever. Its teaches us that each and everyone of us deserves their own  HEA….
  • Ladies grab this book nothing I or anyone else says will do this Fantastic, Nail biting and magical book Justice…. I can’t wait to get everyone’s reaction on this beauty. I can’t wait for URL to be wowed and in the end after all the ugly cries you will be sobbing happy tears…..
  • Enjoy Ladies!!!!

As I sit here thinking of adjectives that will do Preppy some justice I fall flat. Nothing it’s all blank. There is not a word fantastical enough for Preppy. It is pure genius, or is that diabolical ? Hmmm

“I never knew true fear until I met pure evil. He wore a smile and a bow tie”

Preppy has been such a mystery to us. A beloved favorite character throughout King Tyrant Lawless Soulless and Rage. There is not one dull moment in part one of his story. As you read the parts of Preppy are unveiled all the while you sit there in utter shock that there is this side to Preppy and YES IT ALL STARTED WITH PANCAKES.

“It made sense that his body was built for sin, because the hold Samuel Clearwater had over me was something straight from the depths of hell.”

He and Dre have been through so much to fight Dre’s addiction to drugs. But really who is going to help Preppy fight his addiction to Dre? Now as I am saying this YES it is a cliffhanger, duh it says Part1, and boom no one can do cliffhangers like the “Evil Ginger” T.M. Frazier. So sit back relax…. ok so sit on the edge of your seat and be ready for one hell of a hot wild ride and a whole lot of laughs with Preppy and Dre.
“Something tells me that you don’t have a lot of skeletons in your closet.” Preppy shook his head.”Nope, I don’t keep evidence.”

Samuel Clearwater, A.K.A Preppy, likes bowties, pancakes, suspenders, good friends, good times, good drugs, and a good f*ck.
He’s worked his way out from beneath a hellish childhood and is living the life he’s always imagined for himself. When he meets a girl, a junkie on the verge of ending it all, he’s torn between his feelings for her and the crippling fear that she could be the one to end the life he loves.
Andrea ‘Dre’ Capulet is strung out and tired.
Tired of living for her next fix. Tired of doing things that make her stomach turn. Tired of looking in the mirror at the reflection of the person she’s become. Just when she decides to end it all, she meets a man who will change the course of both their lives forever.
And their deaths.
For most people, death is the end of their story.
For Preppy and Dre, death was only the beginning.
This is the fifth book in the King Series and it’s meant to be read after Soulless.

Excerpt
“No! I hate you,” she spat, as I continued to tug her beside me.
“Good, you can hate me while I fuck you,” I said. “But first things first. My lesson obviously didn’t take in that brain of yours. You want what you want and I can’t stop you,” I said, as we approached the train tracks which were elevated on a mound of gravel several feet off the ground. The warning lights flashed orange, the neon reflective barriers dropped down to cover the service road, while the bells indicating an approaching train clanged away. “And since I can’t stop you, I’m going to help you out. Bullet in the head was so three hours ago. I’ve got something even better in mind now.”
“Wait. What?” she asked, her teeth chattering. “You…you wouldn’t.”
“Wouldn’t what?” I said, turning around to face her, almost losing my footing when I noticed the trail of dried tears on her cheeks. I looked away for a fraction of a second to regain my composure. “You think I wouldn’t kill someone?” I cocked an eyebrow. “You already know that I’ve been there, done that, bought the motherfucking t-shirt, doll.” Her eyes went wide and she made a move to step back. “Oh no, Doc, I read your letter and I saw what you wanted. And remember, I’m nothing if not accommodating.”
When I pulled her to climb the gravel mound her knees locked up so I bent over and picked her up by the waist, tossing her over my shoulder, carrying her onto the tracks while she beat on my back with her closed fists. When I got to the top I set her down roughly and she fell backwards onto her ass, bracing herself with her hands against the large pieces of gravel under the tracks.
The whistle of the train blew in the distance. It wouldn’t be long now. Dre made a move to stand up, but that wasn’t what I had in mind. I bent down and pushed on her chest, spreading her tiny frame across the tracks. I crawled on top of her, pinning her down with my thighs. I leaned over her, my chest to hers as we both breathed rapidly. She struggled underneath me to get up, pushing at my chest, but I wouldn’t budge. “Why the struggle, Doc? This is what you wanted, isn’t it?”
She glanced up at me as the train whistled again. Her gaze flipped to her right, where the single yellow light from the train emerged from around the corner, shining brighter and brighter as it chugged closer and closer. For a moment she stopped struggling, looking back and forth from the train to me.
“So what, you’re gonna die too?” she asked, hoping to appeal to my sense of self preservation.
I shrugged. “I get bored easily, maybe the devil will make me his errand boy or something.”
“Preppy, this isn’t funny. Get up and get off the fucking tracks,” she said, her concern shifting from herself to me.
I shook my head and yawned. She wiggled underneath me, and although there was a train barreling toward us my cock once again stirred to life. Maybe I should just rip down her panties and push inside of her. Train or no train, it would be one fuck of a way to go out.
“You have to choose, Doc,” I said, making my voice as serious as I was capable. “Life?” I asked, screaming over the sound of the train screeching against the track. I pushed my hard cock against her core and she gasped. Her trembling turned into a shiver, her mouth fell open. I glanced to the side at the blinding light of the approaching train as it bathed us both in a tunnel of light. I leaned down, so close that my lips were a whisper above hers, as I shouted, “Life? Or death? What’s it gonna be, Doc?” My hair blew around my face as the light grew brighter and brighter. “Answer the fucking question!” I demanded, my hands squeezing her shoulders, my fingers digging roughly into her skin. “DO YOU WANT TO FUCKING DIE?”
With only seconds left until we became shredded under the train, Dre closed her eyes and sighed. When she opened them again they were glistening, fresh tears spilling from the edges.
She started to speak, her lips forming the beginning of the word, but before it could fully leave her lips I stood, pulling her up with me. I lifted Dre into my arms and took a running leap off the tracks, my legs flailing in the air as we fell the seven or so feet. Dre’s decision still on her lips, her scream surrounding the air around us as we crashed down into the field.
“I wanna liiiiiiiiiiiivvvvvveeeeee.”

rb-banner
Fractures is the third book in the Running on Empty series, but all can be read as standalones. I have enjoyed all of the books in this series but really looked forward to reading Trinity’s story and I was not disappointed. Right from the first chapter my heart was stolen by Trinity. Theo and Trinity’s relationship has always been volatile. They have been friends, enemies, and lovers but never anything tame.

“Our connection simmers between us. We cling to and thrive on the seductive torture. For years, we’ve been caught up in an evocative dance, our friendship being the common thread that holds us together. Our emotions are too volatile.”
Both Trinity and Theo know that they are meant to be together, but both also need to conquer demons from their past first. Theo is an architect but is secretly a graphic novelist who sketches what he can’t express. His drawings read like a love letter to the one who seems to him to be out of reach.
“I fetch the sketchpad from my desk and begin to draw a story that has been unfurling in my mind. As the ink moves into shapes and edges, I begin the process of apologizing for the bullshit of my past whilst begging for her to forgive me. Each scene is a canvas so filled with hope. With every painful thought I launch across the page, I hope to bring her back to me. Back before his poison wrecked me.”
I love the stories in this series. They are beautiful, engaging, angsty, character driven stories that drew me in until I was enmeshed in these character’s lives. I adore getting caught up in the drama, heartbreak, friendship and love.
“I stroke her face to centre her. “There is beauty in pain. I see beauty through that pain that shines through you. Give me your fire, your anger—give it all to me. You’re allowed to grieve. You’re allowed to feel. Let me see you. All of you.”

If love were a battleground, then we waged a war upon it.

We’d been best friends for years, and then we were wayward lovers. It was meant to just be an itch to scratch—some harmless fun. But once he had me under his thumb, tied in his binds, he became my undoing.

These days, he consumes my thoughts. I’m powerless under his touch.

He makes me ignore the guilt from my past that consumes me when I don’t deserve to forget. With him, I am raw and exposed, yet he continues to move closer to me.

He’s willing to fight, but my armour has been dented enough.

Theo

Secrets have the power to make or break you—mine have the power to do both.

After being lied to by my own family, I know the power of deception. Now, I’m afraid that withholding the truth will be my ruin.

Especially when all my secrets are attached to her.

She is my muse. My salvation. The reason my past didn’t destroy me.

Theo

For the past few months, I’ve been chasing after my dream. A dream that has claws. A dream that holds silent tears. A dream that melts under my fingertips and against my binds.  Trinity. The only woman I can love and hate in one breath. Who caught my attention from the moment I met her. “Your eyes are green! I’m Trinity. Not Tricia.” All I can do is smile. Her vibrancy knocks the wind out of me. “Theo.”             “Nice to meet you. If this class sucks, there’s a fire escape over there.” She tilts her head towards the corner of the room. “I heard the canteen has Mars Bars.”             With her, I wasn’t expected to always be my best, unlike what my father expected. For years, Trinity and I had been caught in a power-play—one moment we were best friends, the next enemies, too immature to act rationally, and too stubborn to relent. Since our teenage years, she was the core of my happiness. Being close to her was enough. As a teenager, I lived in an emotional cage that stemmed from my father’s upbringing, imprisoned by my own insecurity or naïve stupidity. Dating my best friend was a dream I wanted but could never have. I’d already lost so much, and the thought of losing her as well … it was not something I could risk. We’d shared a moment once, but it was more frightening than the destruction that had been going on in my home life at the time. Our friendship was everything.             Now, as adults, twisted by the need to be near each other but too willful to admit it, we are caught in a web of fear and denial. Sure, it might seem easy to date, but neither of us has the courage to broach that subject. If we make it real, it is just as easy to lose it all. Instead, it’s easier to hide behind the smokescreen and under the sheets.  Our connection simmers between us. We cling to and thrive on the seductive torture. For years, we’ve been caught up in an evocative dance, our friendship being the common thread that holds us together. Our emotions are too volatile. A side look, a slight touch of the hand—all minor gestures that have led up to the moment we are now in. A complete clusterfuck.

My precious. No, step back. You can’t touch it.

The amused clerk stares at me, stupefied.             “What?” I ask, clutching the plastic-covered goods. I’m only hugging a magazine. What’s wrong with that? Pressing my thumb and index finger together, I feel the thickness of the comic. Is it thicker, this edition? I glance down at the glossy contents, trying in vain to guess the page number. Does she finally see him?! Oh my God! He can’t be captured! My excitement flares until the clerk’s eyes clash with mine.             “Haven’t you worked out internet shopping yet? You can order it online and have it delivered to your front door, you know.” He hands me the receipt for my precious purchase, but I can’t move. His sheer stupidity has me frozen to the ground. I stare at him. Right at him. Why was he discouraging customers from coming in? Can I poke him on the forehead to check for any sign of life in there? Check that he isn’t a damn fool? I snap out of my trance and snatch the receipt out of his villainous fingers. “And you fucking work here,” I mutter in disgust. “The whole purpose of coming in here is to immerse myself in the vibe. The unity of like-minded people in one place. You clearly do not have the said vibe to be standing behind that desk.” I stand on my tiptoes and look over the desktop at him. “You’re not even dressed like you belong here. Where are your Docs? Where’s the metal in your face? Where’s the chain to your wallet? You’re wearing ordinary jeans … did you lose your way from the GAP?”             He leans forward and stares down at my outfit, paying significant attention to the cherry blossom tattoo that crawls over my shoulder. Stare at my boobs, buddy, and my shoe goes up your arse.             “Did a Smurf attach itself to your head?” I touch my tongue to my labret and run a hand quickly through the loose ends of my bun, unweaving it to form a ponytail. “Well, there was a Smurf orgy, actually. They all got excited and left a mess.” His face stills as he stares at me. “Yeah, I know, I took it too far. But, you have to admit, you kinda don’t fit in here if you can’t take on the weirdos.” I chuckle as I bring the comic closer to me.             “I get off in fifteen if you want to hit a pub and yell at me some more.” He winks, leaning his elbows on the desk. “We can see how weird this conversation can really get.” My chin flinches in surprise. He’s cute. I’ll give him that. He has short blond hair and blue eyes, but that familiar feeling of interest doesn’t come. No accelerated heartbeat, or pulse—nothing. A year ago, I might’ve said yes, the quick thrill of want overriding anything else. The need to escape my clouded thoughts had been easily fixed with a cheap screw. So why not now? ’Cause I had a boyfriend? We weren’t even classified that.             I consider my response for a moment longer, not realising that I’ve kept him waiting until he clears his throat.             “So, I take it that’s a no, then?” He tilts his head, leaning closer to me, but I take a step back. His cuteness does not lure me in. He chuckles and winks. But, again, nothing. No twitching—nothing igniting between my legs. I honestly think my vagina is on a hiatus or holidaying in the Bahamas. All the while it sunbakes, waiting for Theo. We need to sort our shit out.             “Sorry. I’m not able to,” I say, clutching the mag to my chest. “But … um, thanks?”             “You’re asking a question?”             “It’s not every day you get a backhanded compliment after being accused of a Smurf invasion.” He smiles and points to the magazine that I grip at my chest. “Off you go on your special adventure with that.” He gestures as the magazine crinkles slightly between my protective fingers. “Try to avoid any Smurfs on your way home.” I release the magazine in one hand and point up towards my left. “I think once you’re up those stairs, the GAP is that way.”

Scoring the Billionaire

Let me just say that Max Monroe announce the next book, I’m the happiest person under the sun. I fucking love their books. Its absolutely how My friends and I behave. And our husbands are just like these boys. The Crazy Tamer’s.

Okay so we already know that this book is about Wes and Winnie. Winnie has a 6- year old Daughter as well.

Its for this reason Wes took longer to warm to the idea of being attracted to Winnie. Wes is an absolute Man’s Man. But for Winnie and her daughter he is like Play Dough….

He is so work tracked that he has refused to let anyone in so that they won’t distract him. Its like the 7th Wonder in The World how he makes friends and how I he is free with them and in the next second can become someone that you can’t touch… He really has built himself into a Guarded house and watching Winnie and Lexi sneak and scale this armoured house was sensational.

Winnie ignites feelings he doesn’t wanna have and when he does it fucking Pandora’s Box. One taste that’s all it took and there was never going back to sugar-free Diet. Winnie and Lexi add sweet, color and Dimensions in his life. They are exactly what the doctor order.

I really couldn’t fault Winnie for trying to protect her heart and lexi’s from Wes. He was a Commitment Phobe after all. But damn did this man weasel his way in and Boy oh Boy did he bring the heat. Lexi could see straight away how honest he was, how else could you explain this Exceptionally Brilliant child taking to this man almost instantly. I think she made a major part in helping Wes drop the walls and Winnie see how amazing he is. Without knowing it he was falling for these two and boy even a stone would melt for Wes, Winnie didn’t stand a chance at falling for him as well.

Wes with Lexi Makes ur heart Sigh with happiness. I love watching strong alpha men being like putty in a kids hand. Wes loved this child more than his own. I marveled at how he understood her, at how he engaged with her Brilliance and how took interest in her likes, dislikes. Watching him being fascinated by her was really Awe Worthy moments. I adore Lexi and hope we see more of their interaction in Scoring Her.

Max and Monroe can Write people there is never a doubt. Their Brilliance knows no end. They know how to have gripped and spell bound from page one till the end of the Epilogue.

They write Dialogues were you enjoy reading each and every single word. They write some of the best Banter. Banter that will have you laughing by urself in the dead of the night and trust me even with it being after midnight you won’t be able to stop from laughing or giggling. You may even spit ur wine or choke with the lines between these or their friends. Crazy Cass and Whorgie are Ridiculously hilarious. I love absolutely love seeing them all together. I thoroughly enjoyed the naughty Banter and texts between our Hero and heroin

Ladies can write Sex Scene. Damn was it hot or Was It Hot….. I don’t know how but they still surprise me at how magnificent sex scenes they give us.

Really not one single bad thing I can say about this book.
Sheer brilliance and utter Magic is what this book is. Be ready to be Wowed and have our Cheeks hurting from all the smiling you will be doing.
Till next Time Ladies.

Enjoy!!!!!fb_img_1477412996991

When I first found Anne Jolin I was exceptionally Happy. I had found an Author that could write my Kinda Characters. Since then till now that joy has not ended. Whenever she talks about her next book the first thing that comes to mind is when’s the release date also after that the Hashtag
#thestruggleisreal goes through my mind lol. Waiting for her books is hard but the end result makes so worth it.

This book is about The sweet, honest and Goodness Personified Aurora. This Girl’s heart is so damn Huge. I wish I could be half the person she is. The way her family loves and protects her shows also where she get her beautiful personality from.

Its this kind of Personality that leads her to Rhys “Crow”. Ladies ur heart just breaks for this Guy. The things he has went through and just because when he loves he does it unconditionally. He protects those he loves and would go to hell and back to make sure nobody hurts what’s his.

Watching Aurora break down Crows defenses was pretty Amazing. She really inspires you never to judge or believe the cover of book. I enjoyed watching her show him what true love and kindness is like. I don’t think anyone was more deserving of the HEA than Crow.

Anne Jolin gives another Awesome book.
Enjoy ladies!!!!fb_img_1477407707285

EXCERPT

“You ever broken the law before this, Eden?”

I expected a quick and unequivocal no, but it didn’t come as fast as I thought it would.

“I don’t think so. I mean, I’m sure I have by accident sometime. I’ve jaywalked. But I’m not some kind of criminal.”

Well, that makes one of us, I thought.

My anger from earlier started to fade and be replaced by the heat of the knowledge that Eden’s naked tits were only inches from my chest, separated by water I could see right through. Last time I’d seen them under her pink bra, she’d been too fucked up for me to take advantage . . . but tonight she was completely sober.

I raised my gaze from her chest, expecting her cheeks to be red when she realized I was staring at her nipples, but she wasn’t watching my face. She was staring down at my body.

“Like what you see?”

That got her attention.

Eden jerked her head up to meet my eyes, and the blush colored her skin like I’d timed it.

“You’re . . . big.”

A booming laugh broke free from my throat at her unexpected response, and her cheeks flamed even brighter.

“No, that’s not what I meant. I mean . . . everywhere. Not just, in the . . .” She looked down, then jerked her gaze back to mine. “I’m going to shut up now.”

That kind of awkward and fumbling response couldn’t be faked, and protectiveness rose in me again. Eden was no con artist. She was a girl who couldn’t even say the word cock without turning red.

“Ain’t no shame in my game.”

She reached out a hand and covered my lips with her fingers. “Stop. You’re just making it worse. I wasn’t checking out your . . . package. I mean, I did before you got in the pool, but that’s only because I thought you’d have underwear on because who doesn’t wear underwear?” The babbling continued, and so did my laughter.

Hell, I hadn’t laughed this much since Delilah had given in to a customer’s request and tattooed a flexing veined eggplant cartoon on a client so he could send pictures of it instead of dick pics.

Eden pulled her hand back and covered her face. “I’m going to stop talking now. I seriously can’t be trusted to say anything that’s not completely humiliating when you’re standing this close to me naked.”

“I disagree, and since I’m not ready to get out and put my clothes on, you’re going to have to deal with it.”

She mumbled something under her breath.

“Come again?”

Eden pressed her lips together for a beat before saying, “I don’t know how to deal with it. This isn’t something I’ve ever dealt with before.”

A crazy thought popped into my brain. “Are you a virgin?”

If there was a red brighter than fire engine, that was the color of Eden’s cheeks. “No! Of course not. Really. I’ve touched a dick before. I mean, just the one, but it still counts. Well, I didn’t really touch it. Except, you know, inside me. Oh my God, I’m just going to shut up now.”

Realization dawned on me as her babbled protest silenced. “You’ve had sex with one guy? Once? How old are you?”

Eden turned to bolt, but instead smashed her tits into my arm. I stepped close enough so that only an inch of water separated us.

Her gaze went skyward. “This is so humiliating.”

That’s where she and I had differing opinions. “Why? Because you haven’t fucked every guy you’ve ever met? What’s wrong with that?”

Eden’s gaze snapped down to mine and her brows drew into slashes. “Hey, whoa now. You can toss that double-standard crap right in the trash. What if I had screwed every guy I ever met? Would that make me less of a person? I mean, it’s not like you probably haven’t been with dozens and dozens of women. I’m not judging you. Except for maybe that Kitty girl. I mean, really? You’ve got to have some standards.”

My laughter boomed out again across the courtyard. “Cupcake, just because I can get most any pussy I want, doesn’t mean I do it.”

“Still, double standards are—”

When she started on another tirade, I decided to silence her the best way I knew how.

I leaned down and covered her lips with mine.

Review

5 stars

Meghan March ALWAYS manages to suck me into her books.  I knew this book wouldn’t be any different.  Little did I know I would be left in awe over her writing and the beauty of how she forces her readers to FEEL every emotion her charters are feeling.  There are very few authors who can achieve this feat and Meghan is at the top of that list.

Now about Beneath These Shadows while I can not recommend this book enough I also refuse to spoil anything about it.  I can say yes it is part of a series but it also can be read as a standalone. But really once you  get a taste of the greatness that is the Head of the Runaways (Meghan’s readers group) you will have to read everything she has written. Yes I said have to because lets face it her books are that addictive. Now one click sit back relax and enjoy the incredible journey Meghan March takes you on.

Sinfully attractive playboy Nolan Zimmerman was born into a wealthy family, but maintains grueling hours to keep the reputation of his grandmother’s beloved bar as one of the hottest spots in New York. Sexy and independent Sofia Kendall has made her way to the top as a high powered attorney, and she doesn’t have time for men in general. When Sofia is offered a transfer to Manhattan, she’s eager to reconnect with her family but unprepared for a scandalous love affair.

Upon first meeting several years ago, the circumstances didn’t allow Sofia and Nolan to explore the initial spark of chemistry. And as fate would have it, their chances of starting something doesn’t look too favorable the second time around either. Once they decide they can’t be anything more than friends, is there no going back, or will their unrelenting desire for each other be too strong to resist?

Warning: This book is filled with serious angst and star-crossed lovers. If you’re looking for a sexy tale with steamy love scenes, sit back and enjoy the story.

When I close in on Sharlo, now perched on one of the bar stools, I stop dead in my tracks. Sofia Kendall stands wedged in-between a few guys waiting to put their orders. Navy wool coat draped over her arm, she glances around the bar, her gaze relaxed and curious. With her pale blond hair swept into a neat knot low on the back of her head, the delicate features of her neck and chin are on clear display. She’s a total knockout.
Not only that, but the woman knows how to dress to impress. The tasteful sapphire dress showcases her curvy body without being tacky or revealing too much of her tits. Her no-nonsense attitude alone seems to say she made the right career choice by becoming an attorney. Her bright blue eyes are as intimidating as the way she carries herself, shoulders taut and chin high, but it seems something about her has changed since I had the pleasure of seeing her last.
Two summers ago, I met Sofia just moments after she arrived at Evelyn and Charlie’s beach house in the Hamptons. We didn’t have the best introduction—not only did I knock her into the bushes, but she insinuated that I was a playboy and gave me the cold shoulder. It was hardly an hour later when Sharlo was struck down by some psychotic driver with a grudge against her father. Sofia was there to witness it happen, and somehow took on the burden of the accident, saying it was her fault. I never got all the details even though we spent countless hours together in the ER, waiting for Sharlo to wake from a coma.
Sofia leaned on me both literally and emotionally, but the situation didn’t allow for any meaningful conversation and it was shit timing to make any kind of move. Her internship forced her to leave before I had the chance to grow a pair and see if there was something between us worth exploring. Of course I would meet someone with potential who lived way the hell down in Texas. Bright, beautiful, no-nonsense, sophisticated, driven, she has the capability to be everything I could want in a woman.
The low burn in my balls from earlier returns when I take another sweeping glance at her figure. How the fuck did I forget that Sharlo told me she’d be coming to visit for the baby shower? But isn’t that in a few weeks? Hell, I don’t know dates without looking at my phone.
Scolding myself to man-up, I close the distance between myself and the women, stopping to scratch my fingertips along Sharlo’s scalp.
“Surprised to see you here,” I say.
“Merely because I’m as unsightly as a blowfish in heat doesn’t mean I’m unable to show my future sister-in-law a good time. But trust me when I say you don’t want to know what I’d do for a shot of whiskey at this point.” My friend turns to me with a sideways smirk before kissing my cheek. With a glow to her cobalt eyes, she taps Sofia on the shoulder. “Love, you remember my mate, Nolan?”
Even though I keep the bar’s lighting dim enough to help everyone relax and unwind, I swear I see a flush fill Sofia’s cheeks when she looks over her shoulder from a few feet away. Not the kind of reaction I’d expect from the hard-nosed law student I met once upon a time.
Fuck. I forgot how irresistible I found her. Her body felt so soft and delicate against mine as she slept in the hospital chair at my side, her silky hair draped over my arm and her jasmine scent driving me wild. It was like having a fucking steak dangled in front of my face. And not just any steak—a filet mignon aged to perfection.
“Yes, of course.” She recovers with a graceful smile. “How are you, Nolan?”
For a split second I consider throwing her the line, better now that you’re here, but think better of it. Someone as polished as Sofia Kendall wouldn’t appreciate the lame attempt at humor. She may be the only woman I’ve met who’s completely out of my league for countless reasons.
“I’m doing well,” I answer with a solid smile, jamming my fingers inside my jeans pockets when it’s clear she won’t be offering her hand any time soon. “Welcome back to the city.”

Excerpt

I pull up in my driveway looking over at the house. What I see pisses me off.

Here she is in a long-sleeved shirt, long pants, hat and glasses pushing a brand new lawn mower.

I make sure I check my temper before I walk over. Right before I cross the street the little girl on the front porch stops me mid step.

She looks like just like her mother, just a smaller version. She is sitting on a plastic little table, that they probably just bought, coloring.

I make my way over to her right when the lawn mower goes off

“I told you I would cut the grass.” I try to sound casual, but the blood in me is boiling, it must be ninety-five degrees outside, and she’s wearing enough clothes for a trek across the frozen tundra.

She looks up “I also said I got it, and I would be doing it myself.” The little girl from the porch makes it to her mother and hides behind her, yanking on her pant leg.

The fearful look that she gives me is just like her mother’s. I crouch down, getting eye-to-eye with her and say “Hey there, beautiful. What’s your name?” She doesn’t reply, and instead she lowers her gaze so she is looking at her feet. “I’m Jackson,” I reach out my hand, but drop it when I know she won’t take it. I gesture behind me, as I say “I live in that house right over there. I used to know your great grandma.” I’m trying to draw her into a conversation with me, but nothing I say engages her.

“It’s ok baby, you can tell him your name. Nan used to make him cookies, so you know what that means, she must have really liked him.” She rubs her daughters shoulder.

“I’m Lilah,” she says in barely a whisper.

“That is the most beautiful name in the whole wide world. You’re lucky to have such a beautiful name.” She smiles at me, right as a car back fires. She yells and puts her hands to her ears.

Two things happen at the same time, her mother grabs her and runs toward the house, and I vow to protect them.

“Wait,” I rush after them and make it right to the door before it’s closed in my face. I stand there inside the house and watch them rushing to the corner and hide.

Two broken girls protecting each other against some monster of the outside world. I walk up to them “It’s ok, it’s just a car, it was nothing but a car.”

“Lilah, baby it’s ok, it’s ok. I’m here. It’s ok baby girl, were safe.” She is trying to comfort the little girl who is sobbing quietly in her mother arms. “No one is here baby.”

She looks over at me, our eyes meeting for one minute before she lowers them again.

“Look it’s ok, it’s just Jackson. There is no one here, baby.” She rocks Lilah back and forth. Her back against the wall while she soothes her baby girl whose sobs are slowly stopping, her eyes closing.

“What can I do?” I’m now sitting in front of her not sure how to even start to dissect this.

“Nothing, you can’t do anything for us,” she kisses Lilah’s head. “No one can.”

I ignore that last part not sure how to talk about this now.

“I’m going to go outside and finish cutting the grass, then I’m going to go pick up some food for us. Does she like pizza?”

“Jackson, I don’t know what relationship you had with my grandmother, but I don’t need your help. We will be fine. Please, it’s ok, you can leave.” She rests her head on the the wall closing her eyes, the defeat of the day leaving her body.

“I’m going to go outside and finish mowing the lawn so Lilah doesn’t have to go outside anymore today. Then I’m going to pick up pizza for myself. You won’t have time to cook, so I’m going to pick one up for you. I want to eat with you guys, but I’m not pushing myself on you either after today. Now I don’t want to fight with you or even discuss this, so just nod that you understand?”

She looks into my eyes, but nods yes.

“I can pay you for the pizza? I have money. I don’t need a hand out,” she says while trying to push herself up to go get fucking money.

If she weren’t so scared of things I would punch the fuck out of something right now. “I don’t want your money, now or ever. I have no doubt you can take care of yourself. Consider this a housewarming present.” I get up going to the door not even giving her a chance to say anything else.

“She’s never had pizza before, so can you just get us plain cheese.”

I don’t say anything afraid of what will come out of my mouth. I nod and walk out the door, closing it quietly so as not to wake Lilah.

I close my eyes exhaling the breath that I didn’t even realize I was holding.

“She’s barely holding on while fighting for her life. She has demons, they both do. Whatever happened to them, it’s in there deep. The both of them are so scared, you can practically see the fear coming off of them.” I look over at Brenda who is on her porch watering her plants. “Tread lightly, Jackson, or better yet walk away if you aren’t going to do anything about it.”

I don’t have a chance to respond she walks into her house closing her front door softly, leaving me fighting my own demons.

PROLOGUE
CALEB
MY father always said I would know when the right woman came along. He was such a wise man. When it happened, I didn’t even question it because the process was so effortless. I just fell into her . . . because my heart knew her right away.
Knew she was the one for me.
I’d known her for years actually. She came to Blackstone Island to live with her grandmother after her parents were killed in a car crash. A devastated fifteen-year-old trying to adapt to a new life in a new place, trying to find where she fit in to a world so different from where she’d come—a forty-square-mile resort island off the Massachusetts coast where her grandmother ran the household at Blackwater, the family ancestral home.
Should have known of her, that is.
Our paths didn’t cross that I am aware of, but it’s possible. I rarely visited the island in those days because I was a twenty-three-year-old junior executive fresh out of Harvard Business School, learning everything I could about the family business. I traveled the world, enjoying the excitement of international boardroom deals by day and socializing at off-hours business affairs by night. I worked hard at both. Affairs, liaisons, one-night stands had all come and gone without a backward glance. Nameless faces and unremarkable encounters filled my nights whenever I wanted them to. The hopping nightlife of the big cities with even bigger players vying for a piece of the pie became my normal. I embraced every aspect that came with the lifestyle. Wealth, sexual favors, a certain celebrity born out of my name, all collected with barely any effort. For the next eight years, I had the world in the palm of my hand as I went about amassing a personal fortune in addition to increasing the family coffers.
Or so I thought.
I didn’t yet know what was missing from my life. Until her. And then, when I realized exactly who she was, and how fate had gotten the last laugh on me, it was already far too late. She’d bewitched me utterly. And furthermore, I knew she had no idea who I was or what ties connected us.
Maybe that’s what made her so intoxicating?
I didn’t know and I didn’t care because it made absolutely no difference to me. I wanted her with a primal desire I could barely understand, yet I embraced that desire wholeheartedly because I was incapable of doing anything else with it. How could I not? She had enchanted me.
However, once my brain managed to catch up, it wasn’t quite so effortless to accept this new and unfamiliar reality of feeling something for a woman beyond the unquestioning curiosity of when and if we might fuck.
I struggled against the idea of her at first for a few reasons. She was too young. My mother would never approve of us together. Others in my world would probably chew her up and spit her out, destroying her sweetness. But I soon found out my heart didn’t give a flying fuck about any of those reasons. The heart wants what it wants, and I’d discovered that for my heart, “want” was all wrapped up in the package that was Brooke Ellen Casterley.
The death of my father from the evils of cancer was an eye-opener for my siblings and me. Money can buy a lot of things, but it can’t stop the grim reaper from calling on you if it’s your time to go. Death was called the great equalizer. And it truly was. Wealth is a trivial thing when it’s only extra fuckin’ zeros on a balance sheet that makes any difference between lives lived. Doesn’t matter if you are rich or poor when you die, because none of it counts at the end. You leave this life the same way you come into it. You go out alone and take nothing. “There has to be more to life than making money, son,” he told me at the end. He took hold of my hand and squeezed as hard as his frail strength could manage so as to make me understand the importance. He had regrets and wanted to share with me what he’d learned to prevent me from making the same mistakes. I understood him clearly.
The most essential value my father tried to teach me along with my brothers and sisters was the idea of family. Family took precedence over money. “Take care of the family first and the wealth will grow, Caleb,” he said.
A strong family moving forward was the only thing that truly meant anything at the end of the day.
The Blackstones had been here on the island since the days when the Mayflower made its treacherous journey to the untamed American shores. As the eldest son it was my duty to make sure the Blackstones would still be here a hundred years from now.
My plan to fulfill my duty included her. It wouldn’t work any other way for me. I knew it the first time I ever felt the heat of her eyes as they burned me from across the room.
I knew it down in my bones.
I was going to marry that lovely, beautiful girl from England, and she would be mine.

Close up shots of a broken glassExcerpt
He leans closer, his nose brushing the side of mine. His scent—the mouthwatering, fatally toxic scent of him—enters my body. I inhale deeply just as he blows out a breath.
“Difficult in that I don’t think I can hold out another second,” Smith says, his lips brushing mine on the last word. It would be the easiest thing in the world, to lean up and press my lips against his. I want him to want me as badly as I want him. The feelings are so intense I have to close my eyes to block out one sense.
“Don’t hold out,” I whisper. “You can’t hide forever.” When I feel his hands on the sides of my face, I open my eyes. “Smith,” I finish.
Instead of responding, he nods and rubs his thumb along my lower lip and ends by pulling it down to open my mouth.
I’m hyper aware of this moment. I know it’s when everything changes. The setting sun plays peekaboo through the trees next to us, and the sounds of the children’s shrill laughter lift on a slight breeze. Smith leans down and brushes his lips against mine back and forth. I taste his breath as mine mingles with his. My head, held still in his hands, is at his mercy. When I’m sure it’s going to happen, I wrap my hands around his waist and pull my body against his. The muscles he’s worked so hard to rehabilitate mold against me as if they were made to fit with mine.
“I’m going to kiss you,” he says. And then he does. Before I can respond. Before I can scream at the top of my lungs, Yes! Finally. Please. Kiss me and never stop. Our lips crash together in a hurried violence. It’s a large amount of pent-up sexual frustration culminating in our mouths colliding—becoming one. After all of our interviews, my mind wandering to his perfect moving lips I could only dream about tasting, I finally get them. His tongue seeks mine out as his hands tilt my head to the side to ease us into a better angle.
I clutch the back of his shirt, tugging him into me until I think I may be hurting him. He releases my head and picks me up, turns so his back is against the tree, and continues his assault from here. My legs wrap around his waist, and in the midst of this frenzied lust filled with stolen breaths and shared emotions, his erection pressing against me, I decide that Smith Eppington is the only person I want to kiss for the rest of my life.
He’s my morphine, the solitary reason my heart beats fast and slow in any single moment. I might as well be stringed like a puppet and marched into an arena naked. This is how I feel when he asserts his control—his dominance—over me. There are so many things I want to tell him, but neither of us wants to be the first to break away from this moment of pure bliss. I’ve never been kissed like I’m oxygen, like I’m the reason one lives, kissed like I alone can keep a heart pumping.

Carina Painter lives a life she created in between the pages of her bestselling novel. At least, that’s what she outwardly portrays. A heart-rending childhood followed by an abusive engagement leaves her broken in all ways possible. A chance encounter provides the fork in the road she so desperately desires.

Navy SEAL Smith Eppington is fighting the war of his lifetime. One that isn’t fought with weapons and highly sought intelligence. It’s a battle to remember his past. The accident that scarred seventy five percent of his body, and stole the life of his best friend also seized parts and pieces of his memory. When an author asks to interview him for a fiction novel, he’s ready to pour his heart out no matter the cost.

The friendship that blossoms between Smith and Carina is something extraordinary. It’s a living, breathing love story about finding yourself, change that is out of your control, grasping what you can, and letting go of everything else.

In a twist of kismet, remembering could destroy everything, but fiction may be what saves the day. A friendship built on new truths and a relationship torn apart by old lies collide in a poignant novel by International Bestselling Author, Rachel Robinson.
